About

Hi there. If you’ve been following, it’s been quite a journey. I started The Traveling Dancer while I was working full time, dancing after work and on vacation, and desperate for a change. I am now a third year graduate student in Critical Dance Studies who dances even less than I did when I was working 40+ hours. Even though my degree program is in Critical Dance Studies, the last two years I've been in coursework. Graduate school is all encompassing - I'm not sure how these 2 years have gone so quickly yet I know while I was in the middle of them they felt torturous at times. Now I'm in my third year, the exam year, and I feel like I can breathe again or rather I'm forcing myself to slow down and breathe. Last quarter was an INSANE time. I was teaching Beginning Composition, applying to a huge fellowing. Completing 2 reading lists, mentoring 3 first year graduate students in different fields, and working at the GradSuccess office. I never did anything apart from school. I had been secretly hoping that a little puppy would walk into my front yard and become my dog. Guess what? It happened!!!!!!!!! Yet, I was too caught up in work that I had no emotional space to help this poor abandoned pup*. Looking back now I realize that I had gotten too caught up in work that I was losing myself and what I want.

2017 is a new year and I want to make some changes. The Traveling Dancer is meant to travel and dance and that’s what I plan to do. A blog helped me get my life together then, so I hope it’ll help me now.

*The puppy was adopted by a professor in my department. However, after a week she gave him to the animal shelter. He needs a female only home. :( Poor little guy - he really needs to find a home with someone who knows how to rehabilitate dogs. I don't know where he is now - I need to check in with the shelter.
